Dr. Colarusso will share insights on his paper, Psychoanalytic Perspectives on the Nearness of Death, which contimues his lifelong interest in normal and pathological development. Using the psychoanalytic tools of observation, insight and introspection, he describes the very sparse, psychoanalytic literature on late-late adulthood, and describe his own experience as he approaches 90.

Presenter Information

Cal Colarusso, M.D. (Presenter)

Dr. Colarusso provides child analytic supervision, consults, second opinions, and child and adult evaluations, as well as analytic psychotherapy, and expert testimony.

He is a Training and Supervising Analyst in Adult and Child Psychoanalysis, Board Certified in Adult and Child Psychiatry, and a retired clinical professor of Psychiatry at UCSD, and author of six professional books and more than fifty peer-reviewed articles. His publications have been published in English, Spanish, Korean, French and German. He is also the author of 17 ebooks and audio books. Dr. Colarusso came to San Diego in 1973 and became a member of a study group that proceeded accreditation of the Institute by the American Psychoanalytic Association. He is the the last living member of the original study group.

Reid Meloy, Ph.D. (Discussant)

Dr. Meloy is an academic graduate and faculty member of the SDPC. He has been a consultant to the Behavioral Analysis Unit, FBI, for the past two decades. He received the Manfred Guttmacher Award from the American Psychiatric Association last year for his co-edited book with Dr. Jens Hoffmann, the International Handbook of Threat Assessment, 2nd edition (Oxford University Press).
